ICC against Laurent Koudou Gbagbo

Afrocentricity International Charges the ICC with Injustice in its Trial of President Laurent Koudou Gbagbo

Afrocentricity International condemns the International Criminal Court’s persecution of Laurent Gbagbo Koudou, the former President of Ivory Coast.

In one of the most despicable acts of its brief history the International Criminal Court, established in 2002, has shown its total disregard of facts, justice, and respect for the legitimate rights of African people.

The kidnapping of President Laurent Gbagbo, which had to be done while Ivorians were asleep because of fear of the revolt of the masses, is one more step in the infamy that has beset the country of Ivory Coast.

The ICC has charged Gbagbo with four crimes against humanity although he and his government were under attack. The ICC reported that it had investigated the unrest that happened and accused Gbagbo of being an “indirect co-perpetrator” of murder, rape, persecution, and other inhuman acts committed between December 18, 2010 and April 12, 2011.

Afrocentricity International has followed the situation in Ivory Coast from the election crisis in 2010.

We predicted that the French and Nato forces would be used to undermine the sovereign government of an African nation because of the weakness of the African Union.

We predicted that France would have an even greater role in Ivory Coast with the demise of the Gbagbo government.

We predicted that any African president seeking to put down unrest would be charged with crimes against humanity regardless of the source and brutality of that unrest.

Afrocentricity International has followed the situation closely enough to know that those who have used force to advance their own agendas often write the history. With the help of the French air force and the Nato forces the government of Ivory Coast was undermined.

In effect, President Gbagbo did not start the war that ensued after the election; however, as a sitting president he had the right and the responsibility to protect the safety of his people and to secure the state. This is what he did in the face of a vigorous attack by rebel organizations seeking to install their candidate.

Afrocentricity International charges the European nations with an assault on the legitimate government of Ivory Coast.

We condemn the trial of Gbagbo as unfair and unjust. Why are not Alassane Ouattara and his minions on trial for the murders, rapes, and abuses committed in the four months of unrest after the election crisis? More importantly, we believe that the ICC is out to subvert the will of African people.

Afrocentricity International charges ICC with victor justice in refusing to arrest Alassane Ouattara or his supporters for the role they played in attacking civilians loyal to their government. The systematic and organized attack on the forces of the government by the French, the rebels, and Nato led to the defeat of the sovereign government of Ivory Coast.

Afrocentricity International believes that there is no way for the ICC to be impartial in its judgment. It has already concluded that Laurent Gbagbo is guilty “indirectly” of leading an entourage to commit crimes.

Afrocentricity International knows that this is an outrage against law. There is no evidence that President Gbagbo ordered any attacks on civilians. As President of his country he sought only to defend the state against rebels and foreigners, for this he should never have been kidnapped, arrested, or transported to Hague for trial.

Afrocentricity International believes the designation of Laurent Gbagbo as “indirect co-perpetrator” is an indication that the ICC is stretching its case in order to charge the former President with crimes for which he is not guilty. His only crime is that his national army was defeated by a combination of foreigners and rebels.

Afrocentricity International calls upon all freedom-loving people to resist this European attempt to undermine the sovereignty of an African nation and to condemn the travesty being conducted in the Hague against Laurent Gbagbo.
